Maris Platais, ASMA

“Windjamming”

Acrylic, 24” x 36”

The painting is an impression of the Maine coast when fishing fleets and coasting schooners dominated the waters. Sunlight through the passing clouds illuminates the fishing schooner, while a cloud casts a shadow over the two coasters, heading out towards the “gut.” The painting’s atmosphere was conceived in the studio, with generous help from Mother Nature through the studio windows and skylight. Some reference material was used for the foreground fisherman, while the coastline and water were created from memory and imagination.
