William McKeown, ASMA“The Ship Doctor” Watercolor, 27” x 19”
The coastal area of the Florida panhandle is a rich resource for artists. Many of its inhabitants carry on the traditions of their ancestors by fishing, shrimping, and oystering. Their numbers are rapidly declining however, due to increased regulations, “water wars” with neighboring states, and a general economic downturn. My subject in this work is an old mechanic working on one of my favorite shrimp boats in Apalachicola.
