“Light Speed, Earthbound”

Oil, 24” x 36”

“Light Speed, Earthbound” refers to my interest in modern physics and the quest to understand the nature of reality. The photon particle, which gives us light, has provided physicists with great insight into the workings of the universe. Additionally, in a way philosophically similar to the 19th century Transcendentalists such as Thoreau and Emerson, and their Luminist painter counterparts, I am interested in the spiritual implications of the natural world and most importantly of light. This has led to a series of paintings that explores the theme of light as a means for revealing the physical reality of the universe and as a metaphor for spirituality.
