Ronald Lent, ASMA“Entering the Harbor”Watercolor, 21” x 28”
The painting “Entering the Harbor” is a watercolor on rag paper which depicts an old two masted schooner sailing into Gloucester harbor on a sunny summer day. The design considerations were made with the obvious repetitions of triangular shapes in the roofs, the sails, and even to a lesser degree the waves, and a secondary repeat theme of the verticals, including the spires, steeples and of course the masts. My usual focus is light and finding interesting shapes and colors that are affected by a particular kind of light. Sunny days seem to get my interest most often, particularly when a nice hunk of white is included, like the sails of the schooner.
