Baguette

Oil, 11” x 14”

The painting “Baguette” began as a love affair with this motor launch. She was moored in Martha’s Vineyard, immediately adjacent to the Steamship Authority ferry slip. I would see her mornings on my 7AM departure to my veterinary job in Falmouth. I always admired her classic lines reflecting the warm morning sunlight in the harbor’s undulating surface. I had learned to paint in complements, and decided to paint Baguette from a very limited palette made up mostly of my favorite complementary colors, orange and blue. My goal was to capture the beauty of Baguette’s reflection in the harbor, with its gentle twists and folds, and balance the range of colors of that image on either side of the rich neutrals created from the complements.
