“Against an Orange Wall”

Oil, 11” x 14”

When I saw this vessel bobbing against an orange wall in a fishing village off the coast of Croatia, all I could see was the design of a painting. The lighting was flat, the colors warm. A tonal piece, I thought. The textures in the stone and stucco walls conveyed an ancient setting. In the painting, the placement of each element in the scene was crucial to supporting the overall design. I wanted to transport the viewer to this peaceful spot on the island of Losinj in the Adriatic Sea.
