John Atwater, ASMA“Maxcy’s View of the Cove”Watercolor, 28” x 37”
“Maxcy’s View of the Cove” is an inventive depiction of Christmas Cove Harbor on Rutherford Island, Maine. Though the harbor and coastal schooner Lewis R. French are depicted as one might see them today, the Coveside Inn is no longer standing, as the property on which the 19th century inn was located was sold, and the inn was burned to the ground in a fire department training exercise. For many years, Audrey Maxcy maintained beautiful flower gardens at the front of her yard along Route 129, though Audrey has now passed away. The porch and chairs are from coastal Maine, though they were discovered in Wiscasset, not Christmas Cove.
